You Skipped the Daily Call

You skipped the call you agreed to make, and now you want to hide. Call late, or go to a meeting and tell the truth. Hiding is the part that grows.

Key takeaway

You skipped the daily call you said you would make. The gap is growing teeth. You can call late and say you skipped it, or you can go to a meeting and stop hiding. A missed check-in is not a drink, and it does not have to become one. Sponsorship is shared experience, not a parole system.

You were going to call. Then it was later, and later felt like too late, and too late felt like a reason to become unreachable. The skipped call is now a second problem stacked on whatever the first one was. You are rehearsing their disappointment in a voice meaner than theirs probably is.

Call late, or show up somewhere. Do not let the miss become a vanishing.

Sponsorship, in P-15, is shared experience between people. It is not a court. You still belong in a meeting if you want to stop drinking. You can walk in and listen even if you feel like a person who failed a chore. There are no dues or fees.

A late call is still a call

If you can stand your own voice, dial and say the plain thing: you did not call when you said you would. You do not need a prologue. If you cannot stand the voice, go to a meeting first and make the call after, tonight, while the momentum exists. Meeting Guide will show you a room. aa.org will not. The meetings search is unverified. Confirm the time. A phone meeting is a way to practice being a voice again.

If the skip was because you drank and you are sick, call 911 before you call them. A check-in is not detox.

Tonight

Come out of hiding once. A late call, a meeting, or both. The miss can be a sentence instead of a disappearance. If you might hurt yourself, call or text 988. A treatment referral is (800) 653-9376. Calling is free. Treatment providers pay for the referral.

Common Questions

Are they angry that I did not call?

You do not know until you ask. People miss calls. Phones die. Shame writes a story faster than a person does. P-15 is a pamphlet of shared experience, not a penalty schedule. You can say, 'I did not call, and I am calling now.'

What if the agreement was every day and I blew it?

Then the agreement needs an honest sentence, not a disappearance. You can keep going to meetings either way. The desire to stop drinking is the membership. A perfect call log is not.

What if I skipped it because I drank?

Say that, if it is true, to a person who can hear it. Get medical help if you are sick. You can still go to a meeting. There are no dues or fees. Hiding the drink and the missed call together is how both get worse.

Can I just go to a meeting and not call?

You can. A meeting does not replace a conversation you owe, if you owe one. It does keep you from spending the night only in hiding. Phone meetings exist if you cannot face the voice yet.

What if the shame makes me want to quit everything?
