Key takeaway
You were sharing and a full name came out of your mouth. The room felt different and your face went hot. You can stop the story there. You do not have to add more names to fix it. Tradition Twelve asks the fellowship to put principles before personalities. You can still come back and listen.

It was out before you heard it. A full name, maybe a workplace, maybe a street. The room did not have to gasp for you to feel the air change. Your face is hot and you want to keep talking so the name gets buried, which is how more names happen.
Stop. You can end the share in the middle of a sentence. "I'm going to stop there" is enough.
Do not repair it by adding detail
An apology that repeats the name is a second share of the same mistake. If you say anything, say you should not have used a name, and then be quiet. After the meeting, you can tell the chair if that helps you. You do not have to. You do not text the story to a friend to process it. That moves the name again.
Tradition Twelve calls anonymity the spiritual foundation and asks members to place principles before personalities. Tradition Eleven asks for personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films. A meeting room is smaller than a newspaper, and the spirit is the same: other people's names stay put. Some groups read an anonymity statement. Hearing it can sting on a night you already slipped. You can still sit through the rest of the hour.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. A clumsy share does not erase it. There are no dues or fees. You can listen for the rest of the night. Introducing yourself is not mandatory the next time your heart is racing.
If you want to hurt yourself over this, call or text 988. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
Come back and keep it general
Next time, talk about what you did and what you felt. Leave out the name, the job, and the address. Principles before personalities is the idea in plain clothes. You are allowed to be new at it.
Meetings are in person, online, or by phone. aa.org is not a finder. Use the search on this site and confirm the time. Listings here are not verified. NIDA says these groups are peer support, not treatment. Call (800) 653-9376 if you need help finding treatment. The call is free to you. Treatment providers pay for the referral. The line is not A.A. and it is not SMART Recovery.
For the rest of this meeting
Stop talking. Do not add another name. Stay if you can, or step outside and breathe. You can come back. The desire that got you in the door is still the requirement that matters.

Common Questions
Did I get kicked out?
A slipped name is not a new membership rule. The only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking. You can stop talking. You can sit. You can leave and come back another night. There are no dues or fees. Introducing yourself was never mandatory.
Should I announce the mistake?
You can stop and say you should not have used a name. You can also stop without a speech. After the meeting you may tell the chair, if you want. Do not repeat the name while you are apologizing. Do not put it in a text later.
What does anonymity ask of me?
Tradition Eleven asks for personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films. Tradition Twelve calls anonymity the spiritual foundation and asks members to place principles before personalities. Someone else's story is not yours to carry out of the room. A meeting may also read an anonymity statement. You can still stay.
I want to disappear. What if that feeling gets dangerous?
Call or text 988. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. A bad share is painful. It is not a reason to hurt yourself. You can go to another meeting and only listen.
