Key takeaway
You came home for the weekend and the bottle is already out, the way it always is. You are a guest in a house that still runs on someone else's drinking. Al-Anon is for you even if you do not live there anymore. You can listen from the car tonight. If the house is unsafe, leave and call 911.

You unpacked a small bag and the bottle was already on the counter, casual, like a centerpiece. Everyone is acting as if this is hospitality. Your body remembers the rest of the script. You are sleeping in a room that used to be yours, and you are already calculating how many hours until you can leave without a scene.
You do not live inside this every day anymore. It can still wreck a Friday.
Al-Anon is for people affected by someone else's drinking, including the ones who only walk back into it on weekends. Distance did not erase you from the welcome.
The car counts as a room tonight
You can say you need air. Sit in the driver's seat with the doors locked and join an electronic meeting. You do not have to speak. Camera off. No dues or fees. No attendance. The people in the house do not get a report. Do not drive during the meeting. If you are leaving for good tonight, get somewhere safe first and meet after you park.
If the visit is waking up your own thirst, that is a different door: an A.A. meeting, for a desire to stop drinking. You can need that and still be a family member. Tonight, pick the one that matches the loudest hurt. The family meeting is fair if the loudest hurt is them.
The finder can show a room in their town if a screen is not enough. 1-888-425-2666 is Al-Anon's meeting information number for the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Confirm the listing. You are not required to announce any of this at the table.
Tonight
Take the hour outside the kitchen. Listen to one meeting from a parked car, or go to a room and sit in the back. The weekend does not have to be survived only by enduring. If the house turns dangerous, call 911 and go. If you might hurt yourself, call or text 988. A treatment referral is (800) 653-9376. Calling is free. Treatment providers pay for the referral.

Common Questions
I do not live there anymore. Do I still belong?
Yes. Al-Anon is for anyone affected by someone else's drinking, including adult children home for a visit. They do not have to still live under that roof. You do not have to move back in to qualify.
What if everyone expects me to drink too?
You can say no, leave the room, or sit in the car. An A.A. meeting is there if the pressure wakes up your own drinking. Al-Anon is there if the pain is about their drinking. You might need one of those tonight, or you might need both on different days.
Do I have to tell them where I am going?
No. You can take a walk. Electronic meetings work from a parked car. Speaking is optional. You do not owe the kitchen a full account.
What if the visit turns mean?
Leave if you can. Call 911 if you cannot, or if someone is being hurt. A meeting is not a reason to stay in a house that has become dangerous for the weekend.
How do I find a meeting in their town?
Use the Al-Anon finder for that area, or an electronic meeting that does not care what town you are in. 1-888-425-2666 covers meeting information in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Confirm the time. For a treatment referral, call (800) 653-9376. Calling is free. Treatment providers pay for the referral.
