Key takeaway
They asked you to go get it, and you said no. Now they are crying or furious, and you feel cruel. You can keep that no for tonight. Al-Anon is for you whether or not they want help. If they are medically sick, or the house turns violent, call 911 before you debate the errand.

They asked you to go get it. You said no. The house changed temperature. They are crying, or they are furious, and both versions make you feel cruel. Your keys are still by the door. Part of you is already inventing the brand they like so the night will quiet down.
You can keep the no until morning. You do not have to renegotiate it on the porch.
The errand is not kindness by default
You have been the person who makes the supply run so the night does not explode. Saying no feels like you caused the explosion. The drinking was already the weather in the house. You declined to be the delivery.
Al-Anon is for families and friends affected by someone else's drinking. You can get help whether or not they seek help. They can hate the no and you can still go to a meeting.
Watch their body, though. If they are shaking, confused, or they cannot breathe, call 911. NIAAA says withdrawal can be life-threatening when someone who drinks heavily over time stops suddenly. Another bottle from you is not a clinic. Emergency care is the right call when they are medically in trouble. Your no about being the shopper can exist in the same hour as that call.
If they get violent, or you are afraid, call 911 and get out. If the guilt makes you want to hurt yourself, call or text 988.
You can leave the argument unfinished
You do not have to win it. You can go to another room, or to the car, and look up a meeting. Electronic Al-Anon meetings run across the day and night. Camera off is welcome. You can listen and skip their name.
How to find a meeting is the practical page. The search on this site is a start, and the listings are not verified, so confirm them.
If they want treatment, FindTreatment.gov lists programs. SAMHSA's National Helpline, 1-800-662-HELP (4357), answers in English and Spanish. Call (800) 653-9376 for help finding treatment. The call is free to you. Treatment providers pay for the referral. The line is not Al-Anon and it is not SMART Recovery.
For the rest of this night
Leave the keys. Keep the no. If someone is in medical danger or you are unsafe, call 911 first. When you are steady enough, sit in an Al-Anon meeting and listen. You can be loved and still refuse the store.

Common Questions
Does saying no make me the reason they are miserable?
Their drinking was already there before this errand. Al-Anon is for families and friends affected by someone else's drinking, and help is available whether or not that person seeks it. You can feel mean and still stay home. One refused trip to the store is not a verdict on your love.
What if they might be going into withdrawal?
If they are shaking, confused, or cannot breathe, call 911. NIAAA says alcohol withdrawal can be life-threatening when a person who drinks heavily over time stops suddenly. Buying another bottle is not medical care. Emergency care is the call when the body is in trouble.
Can I go to a meeting while they are still angry?
If you are safe, yes. You can use an electronic Al-Anon meeting and keep the camera off. You can listen. You do not have to tell the group their name. If you are not safe in the house, leave or call 911 first.
What if I want to undo the no?
You can feel the pull to make peace and still wait until morning. Put the keys somewhere that makes the trip harder for the next hour. Call or text 988 if the guilt is turning into a wish to hurt yourself. Then look up a meeting.
