Key takeaway
You are sober and furious, and the anger is looking for a drink to speak for it. You can be angry and still want to stop. A meeting will not require you to be pleasant. You can listen, or you can say you are mad, and then go home without drinking.

The anger has a taste. You know the drink that used to translate it into something smoother and worse. Tonight you are sober, which means the fury has nowhere to hide, and it is walking around your kitchen looking for a throat. You are afraid of what you will say. You are also afraid that not drinking means you have to be nice, which you are not, not right now.
Nice is not the requirement. A desire to stop drinking is.
That is the welcome. You can listen without sanding your mood down. There are no dues or fees. You do not have to lead with gratitude if what you have is rage.
Put the anger in a room that is not a bar
Go to a meeting and keep your mouth shut if the words would scorch someone. Passing is allowed. If you can say "I am angry and I do not want to drink," that sentence is enough. You do not owe the group the name of the person you are angry at. Anonymity works better when you leave other people's names out anyway.
If a room full of bodies feels like a fight waiting, use a phone meeting and pace your own floor. Meeting Guide can show you what is open. aa.org cannot. The meetings search is another list, not a verified one. Confirm the time.
NIDA says this is peer support, not anger treatment. If the fury is about hurting someone, leave and call 911 if a person is in danger. If it turns on you, call or text 988.
Tonight
Do not drink the anger. Take it to a meeting and listen, or say one true sentence and stop. Then go somewhere you will not start a war. Call 988 if you might hurt yourself. A treatment referral is (800) 653-9376. Calling is free. Treatment providers pay for the referral.

Common Questions
Do I have to calm down before I am allowed in?
No. A desire to stop drinking is the welcome. You can be furious and quiet. You can be furious and say so in a few words. You do not have to perform serenity. There are no dues or fees.
What if I might say something I regret?
Then listen. Sharing is not required. Identifying yourself is not mandatory. You can leave if the room makes the anger hotter. A phone meeting is a way to hear people without being in arm's reach of a fight.
Is anger a sign I am doing it wrong?
It is a sign you are a person who is not numb. The meeting is not a scoreboard. If the anger is pointed at hurting yourself or someone else, that is a different call: 988 or 911.
Can I go if I already snapped at someone?
Yes. You can still want to stop drinking after you were unkind. The meeting will not process the other person's side for you. You can listen and deal with the apology later, if an apology is even the right move.
Where do I go in the next hour?
Meeting Guide, a phone meeting, or the meetings search. Confirm the listing. aa.org is not a finder. Call (800) 653-9376 for a treatment referral. Calling is free. Treatment providers pay for the referral.
