Key takeaway
You just left a meeting and the elevator is counting floors. Your heart is still loud. You do not have to be calm to have attended. You can text someone 'I went' and let that be the whole report. If the building feels unsafe, stay in a lit lobby or call 911. The meeting still counts.

You just left the meeting. The elevator is counting floors, and your heart did not get the message that the hour is over. Your ears are still full of chairs. You keep replaying whether you sounded like a fool, or whether you should have said nothing, or whether the person by the coffee saw your hands.
You do not have to be calm to have attended. The meeting happened. Your nervous system is just late to the exit.
You already went
Text someone "I went." If you have a sponsor, them. If you have one other number, that person. If you have nobody, the text can wait and the fact remains. You do not owe a book report. The time after the meeting is optional. You already did the part where you stayed.
Anyone with a desire to stop drinking is welcome. There are no dues or fees. You were allowed to only listen. A loud heart in a metal box does not revoke that. If you need another voice before you are home, phone meetings exist. The Meeting Guide app can show you one that is still open. Confirm it.
If the building feels unsafe, do not perform courage. Stay in a lit lobby. Call someone to walk you, or call 911 if you are being followed or threatened. The parking lot is not a test of whether the meeting "worked."
What you do with the fear is not a clinical session. The group is peer support. If the replay in your head turns into wanting to hurt yourself, call or text 988. You can sit on the lobby bench until the urge to run to a store gets quieter.
The doors will open. You can walk through them as a person who went. If you want a treatment referral, call (800) 653-9376. The call is free to you. Treatment providers pay for the referral.

Common Questions
Does it count if I am still panicking?
Yes. You were in the room. Calm is not the admission price. Anyone with a desire to stop drinking is welcome, and there are no dues or fees. Your heart can be loud in the elevator and the hour can still be real. You do not have to feel fixed to have gone.
Who do I text?
Text someone who knows you are trying. 'I went' is a full message. You do not have to review the shares. If you have no number yet, you can get one next time from a person you want to know, or you can use a phone meeting on the way if your hands will let you.
The building feels wrong. Do I stay in it?
If you are unsafe, do not ride down into a dark lot alone if you can help it. Stay in a lit lobby. Call someone. Call 911 if you are being followed or threatened. A meeting does not require you to be brave in a stairwell afterward.
I want to go back in and take the share back.
The door can stay closed. You said what you said, or you said nothing. Either way, the elevator is the leaving. You can come back another day and only listen. You do not have to repair your reputation before the ground floor.
I am more scared now than before the meeting.
Sometimes the room stirs you up and the hallway is where you feel it. Call or text 988 if that fear has a plan to hurt you. Call 911 if you are in danger. You can also sit in the lobby until your breath slows, then go home.
