Key takeaway
Kansas City is two cities in two states, so the nearest meeting may be in Kansas or in Missouri. The A.A. central office hotline is (816) 471-7229, and its directory covers both sides. N.A. is a different fellowship. If you need a room tonight, call that hotline or open the meeting finder and go. You can just listen.

Kansas City is two cities on a state line, and the closest meeting may be in Kansas or in Missouri. You do not have to sort that out alone tonight.
If you are looking for A.A., the local page already exists and it is the one to use for the office itself: A.A. meetings in Kansas City. This page is the wider map. A.A., N.A., Al-Anon, and other mutual-aid rooms are not the same meeting with the city name swapped in. Pick the fellowship that matches why you are hurting, then go to one.
A.A. on both sides of the line
The Kansas City Area Central Office publishes a 24-hour hotline, (816) 471-7229. The about page says the hotline is answered around the clock by volunteers, and that most of those calls are people asking where the nearest meeting is. It also says the directory covers group listings in Kansas and Missouri, forty-four counties, and that there are over 200 groups in the metro alone. Those are the office's own figures. Schedules change. Confirm the meeting before you go.
The office site lists Kansas Area 25 and Missouri Area 39, and it links to worldwide A.A. video meetings through the Online Intergroup. Office hours are printed on kc-aa.org. They are also in our A.A. city guide. Use those pages for the street address and the hours, so you are not working off a second copy that can drift.
Our meeting finder searches public A.A. and N.A. feeds by ZIP. It is another door, not a replacement for the central office.
N.A. is a different fellowship
Do not use the A.A. list as if it were N.A. The central office's about page lists a Narcotics Anonymous number, (800) 561-2250, under other helpful lines. The rooms themselves live on the N.A. side. N.A. World Services does not keep the in-person database. It points you to the local area site. For this metro, start with N.A. meetings in Kansas City and kansascityna.org.
N.A.'s newcomer pamphlet says there are no dues or fees, the only requirement is a desire to stop using, and you do not have to be clean to attend the first meeting. You can tell them you are just listening.
If it is not your drinking
If you love someone who drinks, you do not belong in a closed A.A. meeting as an observer. Al-Anon is the family fellowship. Their meeting search says you may attend any Al-Anon meeting listed, including in-person, hybrid, and electronic groups. Electronic meetings are also on meetings.al-anon.org. The online Al-Anon guide is the kind one: camera off is fine, and "I'm just listening" is a complete sentence.
If Twelve Step rooms are the part you cannot do tonight, SMART Recovery is a separate nonprofit with free mutual-support meetings. It is not this website. SmarterRecovery is not SMART Recovery. SMART meetings are on their finder, not in our A.A. and N.A. search.
Go to one before you go to bed
Call (816) 471-7229 and ask for a meeting you can reach tonight. Or open /meetings/, put in your ZIP, and choose one. If driving across the line feels like too much, pick an online A.A. meeting or an electronic Al-Anon meeting and keep the camera off.
You can sit in the back. You can leave at the break. What the first hour is like, in plain language, is on your first recovery meeting.
If you are in withdrawal, call 911 rather than driving to a church basement. If you might hurt yourself, call or text 988. If you want help finding a treatment program, call or text (800) 653-9376.
Meeting times and phone lines belong to those fellowships and can change. This page points at their sites. It is not a schedule, and it is not medical advice.

Common Questions
How do I find a recovery meeting in Kansas City tonight?
For A.A., call the Kansas City Area Central Office hotline at (816) 471-7229. The office says the hotline is answered 24 hours a day, and that most calls are people asking where the nearest meeting is. You can also search /meetings/ by ZIP. For N.A., use the Kansas City N.A. guide and kansascityna.org. Confirm the time with the group before you drive across town.
Does one list cover Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri?
The A.A. central office says its directory covers group listings in both Kansas and Missouri, forty-four counties in all. A meeting a short drive away can be on either side of the state line. Say which side you are on when you call. Our separate A.A. Kansas City guide has the office address and more on that directory.
Where do I look if I want N.A. or Al-Anon instead of A.A.?
N.A. and A.A. are different fellowships. Start with the N.A. Kansas City guide on this site and with na.org's finder, which sends you to the local N.A. site for in-person meetings. If you are hurting because of someone else's drinking, use Al-Anon's meeting search. Al-Anon says you may attend any meeting listed there.
Is there a meeting I can join without leaving the house?
Yes. A.A. meetings happen in person, online, and by phone. The Kansas City A.A. site links to the Online Intergroup for worldwide video meetings. Al-Anon lists electronic meetings that run around the clock. You can keep the camera off and say you are just listening.
When is a meeting the wrong next step?
When you are in withdrawal, overdosing, or might hurt yourself. Call 911 for a seizure, trouble breathing, or someone you cannot wake. Call or text 988 for a mental health crisis. A meeting is peer support, not a detox. If you want help finding a treatment program, call or text (800) 653-9376.
